Our programs include free adult literacy one-on-one tutoring and literacy drop in centers. Interested individuals should contact our offices to discuss program and eligibility requirements.

About Our Programs

Basic Literacy Learning

This program is for adults looking to read better. Eligible students are assigned to a volunteer tutor and must meet two hours a week. Students in this program get a personalized learning plan to work towards their reading goals. Meetings must take place at a public location.

English Language Learning

This program is for adults new to speaking English. Eligible students are assigned to a volunteer tutor and must meet two hours a week. Students in this program get a personalized learning plan to work towards their English goals. Meetings must take place at a public location.

Sharing the Art of Reading (S.T.A.R.)

This program brings literacy activities to youth attending City of Buffalo Community Centers. Youth in this program experience the fun of reading and learn the habits of successful readers.

Education & Work Experience

This program is for adults referred by the Erie County Department of Social Services. Students get a foundation for High School Equivalency exams and employment. Our goal is that students will have a future with more employment opportunities and self-sufficiency.

Drop-In Centers

This program is for adults 18+ interested in being a student, anyone on the waiting list, or current students. Visit a drop-in center for help with reading or speaking English. Tutoring usually happens in small groups.
No appointment or commitment required.
