Can you tell me a little about yourself?

I’m an immigrant from Mexico and came to Buffalo, NY 2 years ago. I have a university degree in engineering and was a processing engineer in my home country. I came here to pursue a career with a local manufacturing company.

What made you decide to join the tutoring program?

I decided to join your program so I could navigate in this new country. With very little English skills it was necessary for my new journey.

What has been the hardest part of learning?

Speaking and knowing if what I am saying is right or wrong. I use flash cards every day.

Can you share a time when you felt proud of yourself?

Joining the program makes me feel proud. It was the first step that changed everything. My friends and family have encouraged me on this journey.

How has learning English helped you in daily life?

Working with English speaking natives is very hard to adapt to. However with the program I am now getting familiar with the language. I hope to continue to improve my English skills so I can be fully fluent.

What is something you can do now that was hard before?

Before starting the program, I couldn’t speak any English without the translator, and now I can have short conversations without it.

What would you say to someone thinking about joining a program like this?

I love the program. Since joining I have begun to learn English and that makes me happy.
